Y6 Heart Dissection

30.1.19

During today's science lesson Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to dissect a lamb’s heart as part of their Science unit about human biology. Firstly, they carried out an external examination of the heart, noting the muscle (red) and fat (white) and talked about  the size of the lamb’s heart. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience (although it was a bit gruesome at times) and learnt about the four chambers of the heart and the different blood vessels that lead to and from the heart. Pupils noticed a big difference between the left and the right side of the heart and were able to cut the heart open to see the inside more clearly!
