Reading for Pleasure in Y6 2020-21

In Year 6, we are a keen reading community and love the opportunity to read and talk about books. During lockdown, we started a class padlet so that we could continue to share with others what we were reading. We enjoyed it that much that we have continued it use it as a way of recommending books to each other.

Our Class Reader
This half-term we are reading 'Boy in the Tower' by Polly Ho-Yen

When they first arrived, they came quietly and stealthily as if they tip-toed into the world when we were all looking the other way.

Ade loves living at the top of a tower block. From his window, he feels like he can see the whole world stretching out beneath him.

His mum doesn’t really like looking outside – but it’s going outside that she hates.
She’s happier sleeping all day inside their tower, where it’s safe.

But one day, other tower blocks on the estate start falling down around them and strange, menacing plants begin to appear.

Now their tower isn’t safe anymore. Ade and his mum are trapped and there’s no way out . . .

Introducing Our Reading Ambassadors...

Hello, we are the Year 6 Reading Ambassadors and we meet to discuss ways in which we can promote reading for pleasure, including sharing ideas and opinions from our classmates. We will also be writing a half-termly newsletter full of reviews, information about new books and much more! Watch this space...
